Long-distance move from Virginia to Alabama

You can do better

I called in June '23 based on the Consumer Affairs recommendation and after an hour Zoom to survey the size of the move, I was given a 'binding' estimate of about $10k. I was assured that we would be given a single truck to our load and it should go direct to the destination. Our move date was still TBD but we tentatively set it for 9/1 and I paid a 25% deposit payment. My builder updated my close date for the new house and I called 24/7 and updated my move date to 9/21 on 3 Aug.

On 13 Sept 24/7 'Quality Assurance' called and redid the Zoom call to assess the size of the move. The date is important, since the deposit is non-refundable if the move is cancelled within 10 days of the move date. And they hadn't mentioned any "Q/A" call when I talked to them on Aug 3rd. After a 2 hour Zoom going room to room, my bill of lading estimate was increased by ~60% along with an increase in the deposit required. I felt trapped, since if I didn't sign the new contract, I lost the $2500 deposit and I had to find a new mover in less than a week. I signed the new bill of lading. During this Q/A Zoom, the rep also said that the signed bill of lading was only an estimate of final cost and could be changed by them at any time to reflect the actual cubic feet and materials used in the pack. The only person bound by their contract was me.

I rationalized the price as being a better reflection of the actual cost, so there would be less chance of a surprise later.

It also is important that any potential customer understands 24/7's 'payment plan'. They require 25% up front and will accept a credit card for that. After pick-up, they require 60% of the balance to be paid. They will accept a credit card for that with a 4% 'convenience' fee, but in their contract, they say "I also understand that I may not enact a charge back as a means to resolve an issue with my moving Carrier if for any reason I am dissatisfied with the services I have received including but not limited to: loss or damage of items being shipped, late delivery, property damage at points of service, disputed weight or volume charges, disputed packing charges, or services contracted and not received. I understand that a charge back is not a valid means to remedy any dispute with my moving carrier, 24/7 Logistic Services LLC, and that as a party to a legally binding contract I must adhere to the contract terms and federal regulations ... Collection costs may also be assessed (where applicable) if a charge back is processed." So use of a credit card will not protect you from 24/7. Finally, before they will start delivery at the destination, the remaining balance must be paid in full and they will only accept cash, a USPS money order, wire transfer or Zelle. Basically, to get your stuff, you have to give them money that you will never be able to recover.

So, the move was scheduled for 21 Sept. The mover called and said "we'll be there about 11 AM", so I immediately knew they could not complete the pack and load on the 21st and we were going to be at the old house an extra day. They also used 2 trucks filling each one about half full. They finished loading the second truck on the morning of Friday the 22nd and I paid with a credit card, since the price changed yet again and I had to sign a third Bill of Lading.

The packers were very fast and since I knew never to trust a mover with anything of great monetary or sentimental value and had removed that stuff, the pack went without a hitch.

The first load showed up at the new house on the 25th, but had to wait until 10 AM while I went to the bank to get cash. Out of about 130 items on the manifest, about 20 were missing or had lost their labels or were on the second truck. So I paid the outstanding balance and signed for a partial delivery and started to wait for the rest of the load.

24/7 called on Sept 30th and said they would consolidate my load and ship it soon. At this point I looked at the contract and realized they were not required to deliver until Oct 25th, a month after the first delivery date.

I called them on Oct 9th to get an update and was told I was in luck, it was in the process of loading and should be at the destination in a few days.

The second truck came on Oct 12. There was only the driver and I helped him unload the truck into the garage. It only took about an hour, but the driver did not offer a manifest to check off items, nor did I have to sign anything. ??? On the way out he drove on my lawn and over the Water Works access hatch. My builder told me not to do that again.

If you've read all this, I can only say, 24/7 is expensive and not customer driven. The guys who do the packing and loading are okay, but not special. Find someone else. You can do better.

To Consumer Affairs, how could you have recommended these guys ever?

Long-distance move from Greensboro, NC to Garfield, NJ

Awesome Company!!

I moved from NC to NJ in July. The estimate that 24/7 gave me was very accurate. They maintained a line of communication from beginning to end. On pick up date, the guys that came were very professional and fast. They wrapped all of the items very quickly and safely. I dealt with Charles as my intake person and then dealt with Elizabeth both extremely helpful and professional. John and Kevin delivered my belongings safe and sound. They had a great personality and were a great team. Thanks again guys!! 24/7 Logistics, made this move seem effortless and drama-free. I would recommend this company to anyone!

Long-distance move from Florida to Utah

$6300 Overcharge & Dishonest.

FOR A LARGE MOVE - STAY AWAY!!
They overcharged us $6,300 to move our stuff from FL to UT after telling us it was a "binding quote."

OVERCHARGE
This company told us that they would give us a "binding estimate" based on another company's in-home quote: $8,693.02. We made signed a contract with them February 8, 2018.
They came in June 2018 to load our things. They charged us $15,091 at midnight on June 26th, which is $6,398 more than the binding estimate. They originally told me that they were charging by weight and would let us know the final weight after the move. Our previous moves have been based on weight, so we thought we knew what to expect when it came to the final cost. 24/7 Logistics did not weigh our shipment and charged by cubic feet instead.
*As soon as they arrived to our home, they were trying to increase the price without even seeing that there may be more inventory. They are not honest. They were trying to charge us more last minute for things like the lawnmower, that had been in the original estimate and we ended up having to leave behind to avoid the extra cost. The lawnmower was on the inventory list, but we were told the day of the move that it'd be an extra $150 so we left it behind.

TERRIBLE SERVICE & UNNEEDED STRESS
They did not start working until 5:30pm on the day of the move and only had 3 workers. They brought a truck that was too small (10x20), even based on the binding estimate. This caused delays as they had to fill it up, drive 30 minutes, unload it and then return the next day. Because of the late start, they finished the first day at about 11pm. They started the next day in the afternoon and finished at about midnight. This created multiple problems. It created more exhaustion and stress having to deal with everything in the middle of the night. They wouldn't tell us the final price until they were finished, at midnight when we were required to pay. We were driving 36 hours across the county, starting the next morning.
*They should have been upfront about starting after 5pm instead of in the morning as we were expecting. The late times made everything more stressful and limited us GREATLY with our options. If they had finished at a reasonable hour, we could have tried selling our items that we had to leave behind. Finishing at midnight made everything worse and removed our options.

WERE NOT ABLE TO MOVE THINGS THAT WE HAD TO LEAVE BEHIND
*They brought a truck that was too small for even the estimated inventory. They should have been honest and upfront about what type of truck they were bringing (we've moved several times with 15,000 pounds of stuff and they've ALWAYS brought semi-trailers). They deceived us by talking about weighing the truck. This is not the first time we have moved. Company lacked communication skills. We could have told them that sending 3 guys to move our stuff after 5pm in a small truck would not be sufficient.
They were not able to fit our stuff in the truck and we had to leave many things on the side of the road including: -a futon couch -dressers -a desk -long-term food storage -and more. The movers showed blatant rudeness and disrespect towards me: one of them swearing every time he walked past me, asking why I hired them to move their stuff, questioning and complaining about our inventory, judging me and saying that I couldn't get rid of stuff, etc. Took many breaks, smoked next to our stuff.

DAMAGED ITEMS
Several pieces of furniture were damaged in the move, including a $1200 rocker/recliner loveseat. only $48 back

THE DELIVERY
The delivery was fast but very unorganized. Random people hired, dumped boxes in random places. About half of the boxes put in wrong rooms. Took hours to correct it. I asked the guy in charge if I could tell them which rooms to put things. The driver made it clear that he would not ask me where things went because it is a lot of stuff. Didn't reassemble furniture as promised. Dirtied carpets with black marks.

Official company response

Estimate: When creating an Estimate we are dependent upon the customer to supply an accurate list of items to be moved. The customer’s list consisted of 369 pieces estimated to occupy 2,093 c.f. The customer stated they wanted their items delivered to a storage facility so we included 60 days FREE storage. It is not normally necessary for the Estimator to perform a visual survey if they get an accurate list from the customer. It is not normally necessary for the Estimator to perform a visual survey if they get an accurate list of the customer's inventory from the customer. Even with visual surveys we have had customers who change their minds and take additional items which results in a change in price. No matter whether it is over the phone or visual, the estimate is only as accurate as the information provided to us.

Binding Estimates: As clearly indicated in their name, whether based on cubic feet of weight, are binding on both the customers and the company. Such estimates, if based on weight, do not require a weight ticket since they are binding.

Weight Vs Cubic Feet: The universal method of conversion for converting cubic feet to weight is to multiply the cubic feet by the number 7; and from weight to cubic feet is to divide the weight by the number 7. Please note that both cubic feet and weight are listed on the Estimate because of the conversion.

Increase: Upon arrival to the origin the Foreman doesn’t always recognize that additional items were added to be moved. Especially if such information is not provided in advance. Therefore, the crew is ordered to commence the loading of items that they can identify from the initial inventory list. Once additional items are identified, the Foreman will cease work and inspect the entire shipment, issue a Revised Estimate listing the additional items not on the original inventory list and the price to service those items. At this point the customer has 3 CHOICES:

Cancel the move: no additional charges will be imposed other than to pay for the services already rendered.

Use the Original Estimated Volume Only: customers can decide to only ship the original items list (or the equivalent weight / space).

Accept the Revised Estimate: customers can accept the revised estimate listing the additional items and services now requested.

The customer chose to sign the Revised Estimate then instructed our movers to load the rest of the items a dto include the additional items which would fit on the truck; agreeing that they would be responsible for payment for all services (therefore, the customer knew about the increase in the price and still agreed).

Truck: We sent the largest moving truck for the pickup. It is not efficient to bring a tractor trailer to pickup a shipment unless we already have the trailer booked at full capacity and it is going on a route. We planned for the shipment to fit (369 pieces, 2,093 c.f.) with additional room based on the inventory list and the estimated size of the shipment. We had no idea there would be such a drastic change in the order for the move.

5 pm: Again, during the height of busy season we do everything we can to meet our customers' scheduling requests. Unfortunately, we cannot predict every situation ahead of time. Other customers also encountered obstacles such as not realizing that the moving truck could not access their residence which requires us to rent a shuttle truck and do double or triple the work. This is just one example of what the movers experience last minute. It is never our intention for our workers to work from 5 am until midnight to prepare for the moving truck to pick up the moves scheduled on the next day(s). We would not ever want to purposely inconvenience our customers either. We ask that they please understand none of their inconveniences were intentional, but circumstantial based on the events for their move and changes. Their move was substantially larger than they had divulged to our Estimator causing additional time to pack and load.

Travel Plans: We do not decide when the customers schedule their move. We recommend that the move is not scheduled right before the closing of their home or just before customers have reservations for travel. Too many things can happen. However, our job is to perform the move not meddle in our customers' personal affairs.

Leave Items: Our movers did everything they could to fit as much into the truck as possible. The customer had 120 additional pieces that we were able to fit. The additional items now made the shipment size 3,600 cubic feet. That is an additional 1,500 cubic feet that we fit on the truck; which was MAXIMUM CAPACITY PLUS. The other items the customer would need to decide whether to find another way to transport or leave them. This decision had nothing to do with our services.

Working Until Late: If the customer had let us know ahead of time that they wanted all those additional items serviced we could have planned and dispatched 2 trucks and additional movers. However, we did not know; which caused our movers as well as our customers much frustration.

Workers: The customer must understand that you cannot fit 5 or 6 movers in the cab of a moving truck for a long route. However, we have other movers with whom we have worked with located in various regions of the country that we can call for assistance when we require additional laborers. These persons are qualified movers or previous movers.

Claim: This claim is a Valuation claim and not an insurance claim. Valuation is a level of liability selected and signed for by the customer the day of the move. Movers pay Valuation claims out of their pockets. With that said, the customer voluntarily selected and signed for the free of charge, as required by law, Released Liability Valuation Coverage Protection of $0.60 per pound per article in order to enjoy lower rates for their move. The customer had the opportunity to select Full Value Protection Valuation Coverage at an additional cost and they refused that option. Therefore, our liability in case of negligence is limited to $0.60 per pound per article as dictated on the governing Bill of Lading, signed and agreed upon by the customer.

Settlement: The customer filed a claim for 5 total damaged items (no missing items) plus overcharge. Due to the increase in the inventory the overcharge was determined as legitimate. The damaged items were approved except one item which was determined to be composed of particle board and not meant for withstanding the stresses of being shipped on a tractor trailer route. The rest of the items were approved. The customer was approved for $244.20 and agreed to the settlement offer.

We regret that the customer felt the need to REpost her complaint. We trust that this information that we have provided to her multiple times will one day help her to better understand our position on these matters.

Long-distance move from California to North Carolina

Started well but very poor finish.

We recently relocated from California to North Carolina. After getting several quotes, we decided to go w/ 24/7 logistics. The estimate process was not very good. The truck they sent to pick up our stuff was not big enough. The guys who loaded our things seemed to be very professional. However, on the back end, it was a disaster. The guy who showed up at my door to deliver seemed surprised when I told him there was a 7.5 foot grand piano that required 3 people to load (there were only 2 of them). They literally hired two people off the street, one was intoxicated. I called & told the lady there was a drunk man unloading my furniture. NOTHING was done. They were fine with a drunk person unloading my belongings. So, quite a bit of damage to my things & also, to my residence. Please don’t hire these people without seeing what they did to my furniture. I don’t want you to end up in the situation I did. They do not care about getting your things to you undamaged.

Official company response

First, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience that the customer may have experienced. It is never our intention for our customers to be less than satisfied with our services.

Estimate / Truck: When creating an estimate we are completely dependent upon the customer to supply us with an accurate reflection of the items which they want us to move and the services they will require. This is necessary whether it is an over the phone estimate or an on site estimate. The customer provided us an inventory list consisting of 194 pieces which was estimated to occupy 1759 cubic feet of volume in the truck. We reserved the largest size of truck for them, the 26 foot truck. However, upon arrival to the origin the customer had additional items which they now needed us to move. The inventory sheets prove that the total number of pieces we ultimately moved was 276. The increase in the items required additional volume in the truck.

Additional Help: The customer must understand that a moving truck / tractor trailer will only hold so many grown men in it. Most of the time they will be sent on their routes which require them to be out on the road for weeks at a time. Yes, if the need for additional labor is required, movers have a network that they turn to consisting of other movers or former movers who are available with little notice. This is common for movers to do since they are limited on space in the truck.

Drinking: The customer did indeed contact the office stating that they smelled alcohol on the helper. The Customer Service Representative asked the customer if she wanted her to make the helper leave and we would work on getting someone else, but the customer stated no; that she just wanted us to be made aware.

Damages: We apologized to the customer and provided her the information to file a claim for any damages. The customers registered to file a claim on 05/05/19 and was sent login information to allow them to simply log in and file their claim on 05/06/19. The claim login information sent to the customer allows filing a claim for loss, damage, delay, overcharge, and complaint. All the above can and must be compensated through the claims process as required by federal regulations. We are unable to offer any monetary compensation to the customer until they file a claim and provide all the support required to allow our claims company to properly analyze the claim. Once the claim is received it will be analyzed in the order it was received and compensation will be offered based on our legal liability and within the time frame allowed by law. Since this move was an interstate move it is governed by federal regulations which allows up to 120 days for the processing of the claim. For further assistance with filing claims the customer may contact CSI directly at 772-742-5246 or via email at Info@CSIPros.org.

We regret that the customer felt the need to file this review. We trust that the above explanation enables them to better understand our position on these matters.

Long-distance move from Citrus Heights, CA to Mableton, GA

Terrible Company (Faithful E.).

I guess the 1 star is for them remembering my name. I don't have much to say because I can't sit here trying to write volumes for such serious damage that was done.
Used them as a service to relocate to Georgia from California. Too many hidden fees; supposed to pay $3500 and ended up paying $4500+.
Damaged 5 of my high valued items (many more that I can't list) and lost my big music bag that has my keyboard, microphones, cables, adaptors, and cords in it. The value of the damages and loss it nothing less than $2,000. Delivery of my package was about 3 days late. I had to miss two days of work to get situated because my pregnant wife can't possibly do a lot especially since we are expecting a baby in a month's time. They claim I only have liability insurance but didn't take the responsibility to pack my items and deliver them safely to me without damage and loss. Terrible company!

Official company response

Faithful, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that you may have endured. It is never our intention for our customers to be less than satisfied with our services. However, we would appreciate if you would kindly read and consider the explanations below.

Increase: The increase is due to the fact that your inventory list that you told the Relocation Consultant for your Estimate consisted of 46 pieces. When the movers arrived to pick up your items you then added an additional 34 pieces that you wanted us to pack and ship. Servicing the additional items means that 150 cubic feet of additional volume would be required in the truck to transport your items; thus increasing the price. In addition, your items required $186 in packing and materials charges. Then, at the destination our movers had to carry your items up/down stairs. This is called an accessorial service. Such services are offered at additional charges. These additional services and their applicable prices are listed in the Original estimate (just in case they are needed unexpectedly) which is emailed to all customers to review before they are asked to pay anything or sign in agreement. No, there are not any hidden charges for your move.

Valuation Coverage: You stated in your review that you took out the released liability valuation protection. We offer all customers the option of selecting and paying the additional charges for the Full Replacement Value valuation protection. However, you chose to reject that and selected the minimum liability valuation coverage which is offered free of charge in order to keep the price of the move lower. Therefore, our liability is based on the valuation protection that you, yourself, selected. This is not a choice that we made.

Damages: We certainly apologize if your items endured any damages. We will gladly compensate you based on our legal liability through the claims process.

Delay: You were asked what date will be the first available date that you will be ready for delivery. You stated stated 05/27/19 From that date we have up to 21 business days to attempt the delivery of the shipment. We will not guarantee a date for delivery unless a dedicated truck was requested and paid for. This information is printed within the Original Estimate, and on the contract (Bill of Lading) it clearly states that the last day of the (shortened) delivery window was 06/10/19. We delivered on that date. That was the 10th business day of the delivery window. Although we work very hard to meet everyone’s specific date requested for delivery, sometimes it is not always an option for a variety of reasons which makes the logistics of the moving industry complicated and unpredictable.

We regret that you felt the need to post such a review. We trust that the above explanation enables you to better understand our position on these matters.

Correction: "big music bag that has my keyboard, microphones, cables, adaptors, and cords in it" this item the customer states is missing - in fact is not missing. It was found and delivered. Customer refuses to edit his review but we want to let everyone know that we delivered it safe and sound.

Pack and Load, the BEST movers ever!

24/7 Logistics moved my belongings from Southern California to Missouri in mid June. I have a lot of belongings, and some needed delicate, competent packings. A team lead and crew showed up, 7 people in all. They were magnificent, the packing and moving was done quickly, safely, efficiently. They had exquisite manners. I could not have had a better load and pack experience ever! The set up for the move was amazing also, someone was always available to help and be sure every thing stayed on track. I would never use anyone but 24/7 logistics for any move. They are truly the best out there. Bonnie.

Long-distance move from Houston, TX to Jersey City, NJ

Destroyed my goods, lost eight items, and offered $300 to compensate.

Warning! Do not use these people. They have only been in business a year, and destroyed most of my things and lost EIGHT items. I have moved five times, and of course there are always little problems, but this company is by far the worst I have had. They left my stuff in a warehouse, where it was left in water and damaged, or perhaps it was soaked when they off loaded a move that took priority. All my electronics are ruined, hundreds of dollars in books, furniture has water damange.. my 4000 dollar tempurpedic mattress has mold damage. It was bad from the start, they showed up two days late, and did not have enough protective blankets for my furniture because a previous move took priority (a bigger house/more money). They explained this like it's normal, and not their fault. Despite starting five hours late, they came back the next morning and still didn't bring more blankets! They had plenty of time to do what they contractually agreed to. Needless to say, everything they didn't protect, was ruined. They lost hardware to what furniture they did deliver. When it was delivered, it wasn't even a 24/7 crew, despite me asking five or six times if they would have full custody of my goods. Liars and frauds. Customer service would not response in writing to any of my emails, though nice on the phone, who cares if they are nice when they destroy your stuff. Their photos are fake too, they showed up in a rental truck.

We would like for our customer to please accept our complete and sincere apology for their losses / damages. We do honestly work very hard to satisfy all of our customers.

Lack of Blankets: The move prior to this customer's move was much larger than they had advised for their Estimate. Movers do allow room for error when it comes to customers increasing the size of their shipment, but this increase was excessive. We were not prepared for such a large increase in their inventory. We do keep our trucks stocked to full capacity with packing materials and blankets for our customers' items, but there is only so much room inside a moving truck to store such items.

Larger Move: The customer’s statement that the move previous was larger therefore more important because it means more money…. That is completely uncalled for. It has absolutely nothing to do with the money, but the schedule. The customer whose move was prior to this one was booked before this move was.

Water Damage / Damages: Both the trucks and warehouse were checked for leaks, but none were found anywhere. However, we would like to encourage our customer to file a claim for all of these complaints. We would never intentionally cause damage to our customers' items. The warehouse was instructed to protect the shipment with blankets. But, those blankets belong to the warehouse and not on the truck.
The customers would not ever see the blankets from the warehouse. We would never intentionally damage our customer's items. We service many, many moves and most do not experience any troubles at all. However, we are human and errors do occur.

We have offered the customer a settlement offer based on our legal liability as determined through the claims process. We are trying to do the right thing. The customer, however, chooses to continue to post all these complaints instead of working with us to reach an amicable resolution.

We regret that the customer felt the need to file this review. We trust that they will attempt to work together to resolve their concerns soon.

Great customer service.

This company may not be well known yet, as they are only two years old, but they surely are one of the best. They really are available by phone 24/7. The crew that picked up our belongings were super friendly and efficient. We were moving out of state and they would hold our furniture up to thirty days at no charge. When the truck arrived at our new location the unloading crew was just as awesome as the loading crew. They placed everything where we wanted it and set up our sleep number bed for us. They went beyond what they had to do and our interaction with them was quite pleasant throughout. I would definitely recommend this company.
